A campaign for the Mayor of London’s pledge to fund homes that all Londoners can afford, including council homes for those who need them most. The housing crisis in London is at breaking point, with many Londoners finding themselves priced out of an increasingly exclusive housing market.
Challenge
The original brief was to design hoardings to be used at construction sites for new social housing developments in London. The designs needed to be striking, stand out and highlight the need and purpose of council homes. The remit of the project expanded to a print advertising campaign and website page to highlight the housing crisis in the capital.
Approach
Designs for new site hoardings feature bright and colourful illustrations of existing Mayoral funded housing developments, accompanied by messaging highlighting the Mayor’s housing delivery in the simplest terms. These designs were adapted for a series of posters displayed across London’s transport network.
Working within the existing website style and guidelines, I designed a new page type flexible enough to meet the needs of a wide variety of campaigns, but to be used in the first instance for a housing campaign – Building a London for Everyone. After consulting with senior stakeholders I spoke with audience representative groups and helped conduct user research sessions and focus groups, to ensure we produced a truly user-centred campaign page. For the short duration of the campaign, the page received 84,000 visits – nearly 10 times more than previous campaign pages – with a high level of engagement.
